Hi guys, haven't posted in a loooong time. I have been reading but not posting. I am also at work right now and must be brief.
I am not sure if in my absence I have gone a little batty, but there is something very odd about Romney's campaign "suspension" today...
Over a year ago, I publicly put my money on Romney getting the Republican nomination--hands down. It had come out rather quietly that Richard Mellon Scaife had thrown the bulk of his vast wealth behind him as well as the other Arkansas financiers of the Clinton investigations, the Swift Boat veterans for truth, et al.
In my mind, the dark forces in the Republican party, the REAL Republican party; the moneymen, the coporate cronies, the invisible forces who are masked by the pro-lifers the fundamentalist christians, etc. handng over their support, that "silent" backing, to Romney, I figured meant that he was a shoe-in.
As we know, the last month or so McCain has really surged, and consequently really rattled their cage. He came back out of nowhere. We have all seen the Limbaugh, Hewitt, Coulter apoplexy at the now inevitability of his nomination. And, tangentially, the sheer idiocy of their reasoning for supporting Romney over McCain is so false on it's face that even the most ardent conserative droolers can see through it.
"Romney is the true conservative"
It is truly fascinating to me how Limbaugh et al are not getting laughed off a cliff with their BS. There is FILM of him just a few years ago debating Ted Kennedy for his Senate seat in Massachusetts where he is literally saying that he is "more liberal" than TED FREAKIN KENNEDY! This is on film! This is not decades ago when he was carousing France opining his not going to Vietnam swirling in youthful indiscretion, he was CAMPAIGNING for the Senate! The man is a walking flip-flopper, a political cipher in the TRUEST sense of the word mroe than I have EVER Seen--- but no. According to the conseravtive "base", HE is the true conservative. And they incomprehensibly get away with this charade;
It requires two things:
1.) Myopia, zero ability to think for one's self
2.) a complicit media to simply repeat it uncritically.
Also I LOVE how the righties blame the "liberal media conspiring with liberal voters!"
Sheudenfreude, Thy name is McCain....
Now here's where I smell something seriously fishy...
Romney did not "end" his campaign. He "suspended" it. Which means that he can retain all of the delegates that he has thusly acquired. Now, suddenly, before the nomination is settled--close but honestly it's not settled--Romney "graciously" concedes? For the good of the party? He then makes a dazzling forget-me-not speech to his supporters from his political crucifix (with his delegate-retaining fingers crossed) and throws some red meat to the base as a final huzzah in the shape of:
"If I fight on in my campaign, all the way to the convention, I would forestall the launch of a national campaign and make it more likely that Senator Clinton or Obama would win. And in this time of war, I simply cannot let my campaign, be a part of aiding a surrender to terror"
Also, on the same day that Romney drops out--excuse me--"suspends" his campaign, Cheney speaks at the CPAC and very confidently announces that a Republican will win the nomination and very conspicuously does not endorse McCain. VERY conspicuously.
What's going on? Am I wearing a tin-foil hat? I am more than willing to concede that, but this stinks--huge. I swear to God it looks like they are going to let McCain take the presidency, even get Huckabee on board as VP, but somehow McCain will not see this election through. force him outin some fashion nd then Romney with his delegate sstill in tact, swoop in for the nomination...
